[Activities overlap with the former Write for Fun: Dream Big course]

Got a child who won’t put pencil to paper?

No words on the page means no words to grow on.

We want our kids to write—even if it’s messy, muddled, or misspelled for now.

The first step to good writing isn’t just skill acquisition. It’s getting them to agree to write. To give it a try!

This self-paced, independent study course makes writing a chore no more!

Class Overview

Made With You in Mind

If your child is new to the skill of using keen observation to feed vivid writing, Building Brave Writers: Observation is the right class. It’s a game-changer for your child’s confidence as they identify as a writer

Through compelling writing prompts, kids gain richer vocabulary, flexible thinking, and a breezy introduction to sensory writing and exploring points of view!

Most importantly, this class helps solidify a regular freewriting routine. Your kids learn the value of freewriting as a method to move the ideas that live inside to the page. Freewriting is the core skill they'll need as they move on to high school writing!

This class boasts

  • Manageable workload, plus a little structure
  • Only 3-week commitment
  • An independent study experience at a low cost!

How does a self-paced, teacher-free course work?

Upon purchase, you receive access to the course modules in our private classroom for multiple semesters. While the course is designed to last three weeks, your student can jump in when they are ready, be it next week or in two months, and work through the course at their own pace.

While our teachers are phenomenal, the class readings and assignments do the teaching in this course. The self-motivated student can move through the material at a pace that feels right for them

Why freewriting?

It’s time to dispel one of the greatest myths in education: that learning needs to feel hard to work.

We don’t adhere to the old adage of “no pain, no gain.”

You’d be surprised how much kids learn when they respond to fascinating prompts in this class without having to wrestle their ideas into strict writing formats!

Quality writing requires that loose, joyful element:

  • Structure and play.
  • Practice and experimentation.
  • Mechanics and expression.

In Building Brave Writers, we balance writing practice with writing adventures that kids love.

Week by Week

Week One

Students build observation skills by using a variety of senses to explore an object. The writing activity has students connect that household object to an experience or memory.

Week Two

This week, students dive into the process of uncovering topics they care to write about. Once the topic is uncovered, they use vivid detail to compel readers to care about the topic, too!

Week Three

It’s time to adopt another view! Students practice writing a narrative with "opposite" facts and recasting a known scene from the villain's perspective.

Word on the Street

I've been receiving emails from Brave Writer for years, but this is the first time we decided to try out a writing class. So glad we did and hope to do more in the future!

Trish (Parent)

This class made me think I can write freely and be confident in writing.
