Whether you're new to Brave Writer or ready to deepen your family’s writing journey, our Core Series is here for you. These classes celebrate the mess and magic of real writing—writing that captures your child’s unique voice and the ideas that reside within. 

Each course in the series introduces essential writing habits, builds confidence, and equips your kids (and you!) with a process that can be used again and again. 

For maximum benefit, take the Brave Writer 101/102/201 classes in the order listed.

These classes all partner the parent with the child in class. Be prepared to learn how to coach your writer as you interact directly with the instructor!

  • Brave Writer 101: Guided Writing Process (ages 9-14 and older remedial writers)

An ideal place to begin! You’ll learn the Brave Writer approach by doing it alongside your child. Discover how to support writing without pressure, nurture your child’s voice, and grow powerful writing through exploration, conversation, and revision. This class changes how families see writing forever!

  •  Brave Writer 102: Learning to Revise (ages 9-14 and older remedial writers)

Now that you’ve discovered the magic of the Brave Writer process, it’s time to refine! Revision is part of the creative process, literally RE-VISIONING the initial draft to make changes to the content and/or how it’s written.  You’ll explore a variety of strategies with the help of your coach. 

  •  Brave Writer 201: Academic Revision (ages 11-18)

Ready for academic writing? This class helps you partner with your teens and tweens as they transition into academic formats, such as the essay. Learn to ask powerful questions, help kids expand on their ideas, and preserve your child’s voice while they craft compelling nonfiction pieces. 

Highlights of these courses:

  • Four-six weeks long and asynchronous, for maximum flexibility
  • Adults are the ones who post in class (Brave Writer 101/102/201)—get all your questions about writing answered!
  • Includes a live instructor giving personalized feedback to help writers grow
