Made With You in Mind
Students will experiment with skills that are crucial to essay writing and academic exploration. They'll learn to
- Articulate a position (think thesis statements!)
- Communicate their findings
- Use concrete examples and evidence in support
- Find deeper meanings and make connections to other perspectives
- Make persuasive choices in light of their intended audience
- Develop their writing processes and habits
Don’t tell your kids—while they explore and share and geek out with their new friends in class, they also gain transferable thinking skills and grow their writing proficiency! (I know! 🤯)
Important Note: We've incorporated a chance for your students' opinions to be heard. We're including the option of uploading video or audio responses to some discussion questions. Students strengthen speaking and listening skills as they communicate their analysis orally. We use a private classroom Padlet for this activity. Those who prefer not to share audio or video are encouraged to skip this activity.
How it works
Each club lasts one month. We watch one movie per week.
Students dissect each movie with other fans in our online classroom.
Our coach leads specific discussions to
- explore character
- uncover themes
- analyze plot points
- examine cinematic technology and art
Students discover fun new movies and appreciate old favorites. You watch them compose, explore, research, and engage in critical thinking. What’s not to love?

Sept 14 - Oct 9 Rip-roaring Robin Williams
One club dedicated to the comedic genius of Robin Williams. Never at a loss for words, Robin Williams was known for zany improvised wordplay, and his characters often have a gift for gab. Enjoy this journey through the work of a man whose comedy will never be equaled.
At Brave Writer, we encounter stories told from a wide variety of perspectives that include time-bound references. Please be aware that you may experience strong reactions to what you watch. By using film as a teaching tool to foster understanding and growth, we have the opportunity to discuss these evolving ideologies.
Note: We choose movies ranging from rating G to PG-13. Be sure to evaluate all movies to determine which are appropriate for your family. And remember to check movie availability in your country/region before signing up!
