When I was a little girl, I spent endless hours holed up in a fort, or high up on a tree branch, with my nose in a book. I wasn’t alone out there. I spent those hours with my entourage of imaginary companions: Anne Shirley, Meg Murry, and Hayley Mills, among others. As a teen, I spent my days nannying. I’d play games with children, go for backyard hikes, and read aloud until my voice was hoarse. Then, I’d take every penny I had earned to the local bookstore.
I have a B.A. in psychology from Providence College and earned my MA/CAGS from Tufts University in school psychology. I loved working in inner-city Boston, both in a regular and special education capacity. I assumed I’d go back once my children were school-aged.
Homeschooling was never on my radar. My husband and I planned to send our kids to school because that’s what people do... and then the public school failed our quirky, outside-of-the-box kiddo. We knew we could do it better, even if we had never done it before.
We have never looked back.
We spend our days immersed in nature, chatting around board games, and snuggling over incredible read-alouds. I share all of this and more at My Little Poppies. I also love to chat about real-life homeschooling on The Homeschool Sisters Podcast.
Our family stumbled upon and fell in love with the Brave Writer Lifestyle early on in our homeschool journey. I am absolutely thrilled to be a part of the Brave Writer team.
