The road that led me here is full of unexpected twists and turns, but somehow I ended up exactly where I always wanted to be: coaching writing! I began college as a music education major, tooting the trumpet for countless hours each day. I liked it, but I didn’t love it, at least not as much as I should to make it a career. Listening to the voice of my heart, I took the brave leap and switched majors sophomore year. In 1999, I earned a bachelor's degree from Syracuse University in Inclusive Elementary & Special Education with a double major in English. Just a few years later, I added a master’s degree in Reading Education to my resumé.
Over the years of teaching in traditional classrooms and non-traditional settings, I’ve learned a lot about the power of connecting with learners right where they are. I love getting to know about the passionate pursuits of kids and then guiding them as they put that passion into writing. That’s what made me fall in love with the Brave Writer Lifestyle! Connection comes first!
